Here's How

32 Bits of CIS WinSock

Try this sneaky tactic for a 32-bit connection that takes advantage of CompuServe's Internet capabilities.

Make sure that Dial-Up Networking, Adapter and Scripting are installed. Under Programs/Accessories, set up a new Dial-Up connection, add telephone access numbers, check the modem configuration, then finish the setup. Once the set-up is done, right-click on it and select Properties. Select Server Type and disable all options except Enable Software Compression. Use defaults for all other options.

Find the CompuServe IP addresses in the CompuServe Dialer's CIS.INI file. Right-click on Network Neighborhood and select Properties, TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter. Click on Properties. Choose DNS Configuration and enter IP addresses.

Now run the scripting program and choose CIS.SCP for the connection. Save your changes and reboot. Set all your CIS and Internet apps to work through Winsock. Now you can read e-mail, browse the Web, scan Usenet and visit CIS forums all at once.
