PIN numbers, passwords, security codes ... how do you remember all this stuff? Writing them down on Post-it notes or in the proverbial little black book defeats the purpose. But Password Master securely stores passwords and key numbers.
The program uses government-approved 40-bit DES encryption, and lets you recall them using a unique "hinting" system. Used properly, it will hold and safeguard your passwords and PIN numbers.
You use Master Mode for entering and changing passwords and hints, and View Mode for obtaining hints on passwords. You enter passwords with three oblique hints that should make sense only to you, each more obvious than the last. If the password is "Mississippi," the hints could be "Ol' man" or "Long name."
Passwords are limited to 24 characters, although hint fields can be up to 40 characters. You can turn off any screen echoes for added security.
Password lists can be saved to disk and restored, also using the hinting system to keep them under tight wraps. Since Password Master is a 16-bit program, it installs and runs easily in all breeds of Windows. Unfortunately, this also means there's no easy uninstall through the Windows 95 Control Panel, but since all the files are stored in one directory, manually removing the program isn't difficult.
Documentation is complete and clear, with screenshots accompanying specific points. If there's a need in your life for a secure little black book, Password Master just might have your number.
