Awash in a CE of Hand-Helds and Software

Armed with Windows CE and a high-speed chipset, the Philips Velo 1 hand-held PC is billed as a competitor rather than a complement to a portable computer. The Velo 1 includes a built-in 19.2Kbps modem and fax-send capability, access to Microsoft Mail and cc:Mail, a low-profile RJ-11 jack and an integrated voice recorder. The Velo 1's Miniature Card technology includes two slots for memory expansion and system upgrades. It also provides multiple power options and backlighting, and is powered by a 32-bit RISC processor.

The unit measures 1.25 by 6.75 by 3.75 inches. It comes with 2MB or 4MB of RAM, and a standard Velo Dock to transfer information to and from a Windows 95 PC. Options include support for a Type II PC Card and a traveling cable to connect when away from the Velo Dock.

Compaq C120+

The Compaq C120+ comes with 2MB or 4MB of RAM, a 14.4Kbps PC Card modem, an AC adapter and QuickConnect software. Called a "PC Companion" by Compaq, the hand-held runs Windows CE, measures 1 by 6.8 by 3.6 inches, weighs 13.4 ounces and has 4MB of ROM. Compaq claims two AA batteries provide up to 20 hours of usage.

LG Handheld PC

Running Windows CE, the LG Handheld PC comes with 2MB or 4MB of DRAM and 4MB of ROM. It measures 1 by 6.45 by 3.76 inches and weighs 11.4 ounces without the battery. The optional fax modem transmits data at 14.4Kbps and faxes at 9.6Kbps.

Intellisync for Windows CE

Your hand-held's data is one click away from your notebook or desktop system with Intellisync for Windows CE. The data exchange software synchronizes data stored in Microsoft Schedule+, Lotus Organizer, Microsoft Exchange Address Book and GoldMine. Intellisync also synchronizes data contained in NetManage ECCO 3.03, Daytimer Organizer, ACT, Starfish Sidekick and Now Up-to-Date. Intellisync will make the databases on your CE hand-held and desktop identical regardless of platform. It can also synchronize multiple applications simultaneously.

Desktop To Go

Desktop To Go will synchronize your desktop contact managers and group schedulers with those running on Windows CE and Pibt. The application also converts Pocket Word and Pocket Excel documents to desktop word processors and spreadsheets, and vice versa. Its file translators maintain formatting, such as bold, italics and embedded graphic, through the conversion.
