PartitionMagic has earned the reputation of easily repartitioning hard disks with any file structure, but we've found a nasty bug in the recently released 3.0 version. If you resize an NTFS primary active boot partition, it becomes unbootable. If you've been bitten by this particular bug, don't despair; your data is still intact, thanks to a fix. Here's how: Set the drive up as a slave drive on a working NT system (server or workstation) and run CHKDSK with the /F switch on the afflicted partition. When you move the drive back to its original system, it should boot normally. Incidentally, you can get a patch that fixes PartitionMagic itself from www.powerquest.com/download/update3.html.
