Jaz Drive Backup Tip

You couldn't safely use MS Backup across multiple tapes . . . until now! Here's how, using Iomega's Jaz drive. Use the drive's Copy Machine utility to copy the hard drive to a cartridge. Create a startup disk with the button in Control Panel\Add/Remove Programs\Startup Disk, and alter the disk to load the Jaz drivers. Unhide and copy MSDOS.SYS from your boot drive to the floppy. Edit the text in the floppy's MSDOS.SYS and the cartridge's INI files to make the drive references point to the Jaz drive. Reboot off the floppy. Use REGEDIT.EXE to export the Registry. Edit the exported text substituting the hard disk's drive letter with the cartridges', save the file, and double-click on it. Run REGEDIT.EXE, then search for and remove any remaining references to the hard disk, provided they're duplicated by references to the Jaz drive. Close REGEDIT, reboot off the cartridge again, use Explorer's View/Options screen to set it to display all files, and you can drag your whole hard drive-Windows' special files and all-to subdirectories on the cartridge. To restore a disk image, boot using the special floppy and cartridge, then drag and drop the image back.
