WinLab Reviews
-- by Joel T. Patz
Logitech's PageScan Color Pro is a worthy successor to the discontinued PageScan, formerly on our Recommended List. The Color Pro installs easily, and the software includes Adobe's PhotoDeluxe and Logitech's own scanning software. There is a pop-up toolbar that displays when you insert a document or photograph into the input tray. You can feed documents through the front or back of the unit, use the 10-page automatic document feeder (though it frequently stuck on the fifth of 10 pages) or remove the unit from its base to scan bound documents, such as pages or images from a book or report. You can scan up to 16.8 million colors with optical resolution up to 400x800dpi, though the quality of the scanned image was very good, even at lower resolutions. The toolbar has separate settings for scanning in art (color photographs, grayscale or line art) or text (convertible to editable text using the included Xerox TextBridge OCR engine), printing a scanned image or attaching one to a fax (assuming you have a fax program installed) The unit offers parallel pass-through for your printer, though the power supply connection often disconnected and gave me "can't find scanner" error messages. Though the price is a bit high, the image quality and software bundle are good enough to put this scanner on our Recommended List.
