A CD-ROM containing patch files is one of the best ways to deal with the annoying issue of dribbleware (Start, December 1996). You ensure that you have the latest version, you won't have to download huge files, and it's much easier to restore your files if something goes awry on your system.

PC owners do not always have the time and capability to download the bug fixes that should have come with the program. Customers are usually the ones who report bugs in the first place. Then the big vendors turn their backs on us and don't provide free upgrades.
