SOCKS Version 4
Strutting Safely Across the Web

Hummingbird Communications' SOCKS Version 4 can let you take a safe walk on the World Wide Web.

SOCKS Version 4 is an Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) open-systems protocol. By installing it on an NT workstation, you can control access to the Internet and corporate intranet for all Winsock 1.1 or 2.0-compliant TCP/IP applications. That's because SOCKS Version 4 intercepts NT Workstation's Internet connection requests and refers them to the SOCKS server (available separately)

Next, the server either permits or denies the connection request based on settings established by a network administrator. If the connection is permitted, SOCKS creates a secure circuit between the client and requested host.

SOCKS Version 4 is now available for free download from the company's Web site at http://www.hummingbird.com/download/socks.html.
