A 200MHz MMX notebook is no longer computer science fiction. The LEK FutureNote MX 200 incorporates Intel's multimedia chip, as well as a detachable display and standard DIMMs for easy upgrades. The notebook's base configuration includes 16MB of RAM, a 12.1-inch TFT LCD display, a 1GB hard disk, an 8X internal CD-ROM drive with 16-bit 3-D stereo sound, a 33.6Kbps PC Card modem, a 1.44MB floppy drive, a NiMH battery and a carrying case. The FutureNote MX 200 is easily upgradable. It includes two DIMM sockets to expand any model to 40MB of RAM. (A higher-end model is available now with 40MB of RAM and a 2.1GB hard drive.) The microprocessor is a plug-in module, so you can easily upgrade it when faster chips become available, and the 12.1-inch 800x600 SVGA LCD is also removable for an upgrade. The FutureNote MX 200 comes standard with 256KB synchronous level 2 cache and a 2MB PCI bus video card with an external monitor port providing 1280x1024 resolution. Also included is MPEG-I video decoding, one built-in Type III or two Type II PCMCIA cards, and a touchpad pointing device. A docking pad and port replicator are optional. $3,550; with 40MB of RAM and 2.1GB hard disk, $3,950 LEK Technologies 800-284-8459, 806-622-3313
