Whitewashed Printing

We've learned that when Win3.1x users try to print color documents from WordPerfect 6.0a and 6.1 to HP Color LaserJet 5MPS printers, the documents will only print in black and white. And when you set the driver to print in color-instead of relying on its automatic color detection-the printouts are green. Even printer drivers downloaded for WordPerfect from Corel don't work. As a temporary solution, try using the HP DeskJet 1200C driver with Print Manager enabled.

Among the 113 problems fixed by Service Pack 2 for Windows NT 4.0-available at ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/winnt/winnt-public/fixes/usa-is a bug that prevented Diskeeper 2.0 from running properly on laptops. If you try to install Diskeeper 2.0 without the OS patch, the install program will warn you that SP2 is not installed, and suggest that you get and install it. After that, Diskeeper 2.0 will install and work just fine. For more information on Diskeeper, visit http://www.execsoft.com.

In "The Root Is the Problem" (Notes from the Lab, February), we mentioned that a long filename requires two directory entries: one for the long name, one for the 8.3 equivalent. However, senior contributing editor John Woram points out that two entries is the minimum required. The long filename might require one to 10 entries-depending on its length-in addition to the one required for the 8.3 equivalent.
