Digital debris

When I read John Woram's articles on reformatting my hard drive to cure Windows 95 problems (Optimizing Windows, December 1996 and April 1997), I thought he was crazy! Then my one-year-old 120MHz Pentium system ground to a halt. The mouse crawled, and finally Microsoft Word wouldn't even load. I gathered up all of my original disks, backed up, said a prayer and booted from my emergency floppy. After reinstalling Windows 95 and only a few necessary programs, everything worked great. I even managed to solve some problems I didn't realize I had. I wish to apologize for doubting Mr. Woram. I have already told all my friends to consider following his advice.

I'd like to express my thanks to Fred Langa, whose article about clearing out his hard drive (Start, March) started up my computer again. I had been having sporadic problems with Windows 95, and his solution fixed them without a reformat.
