Hitachi MP-EG1A
Pictures in the Palm of Your Hand

Here's good news if you dread lugging around that cumbersome camcorder: The Hitachi MP-EG1A digital camera weighs 19.3 ounces and measures just 3.3 by 5.6 by 2.2 inches. Small and light enough for your shirt pocket, it features real-time compression and full-motion video and playback, which are all handled by a single chip-the MPEG I encoder/decoder.

The MP-EG1A has a built-in 260MB PCMCIA card with a 0.25-inch charged-coupled device. It records up to 20 minutes of MPEG I digital video at resolutions up to 352x240 pixels. The camera also stores 3,000 JPEG images at resolutions up to 704x480 pixels and lets you shoot five images in rapid succession. You can record a maximum of 4 hours of 32K digital audio while you take still pictures. The camera's 1.8-inch color LCD enables you to view images with a 3x optical zoom and a 2x digital zoom lens.

The MP-EG1A comes with an ISA interface kit, an AC adapter/charger, two lithium ion battery packs that can be recharged in less than 100 minutes and a wireless remote control.
