HP Falls for NT

-- by Joseph C. Panettieri

Another UNIX offfering bites the dust? Not quite, but Hewlett-Packard-following Digital and IBM's lead-is the latest UNIX vendor to expand its support for Windows NT.

HP and Microsoft are integrating HP OpenView with Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) for NT. At the same time, HP has stopped selling its OpenMail for NT and will now recommend Microsoft Exchange Server to NT customers. HP will also continue building links between HP-UX (its Unix offering) and Windows NT.

As a recent report from Zona Research stated, the HP/Microsoft partnership "reinforces the possibility of a future without HP/UX." We'll let you know if that day ever comes.
