Depending on your computing needs, Microsoft's Zero Administration Kit for Windows NT Workstation 4.0 is a blessing or a burden. The kit (available at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/zak) provides centralized configuration of corporate desktops, prohibits users from installing applications, and allows apps and data to be accessed from the server. Analysts consider the kit Microsoft's response to easily managed network computers. Using Microsoft's kit (which is also under development for Windows 95), NT network administrators can specify which business app users may run, the look of an NT Desktop and where user data can reside. Users can be prevented from installing apps or forced to store data centrally on a network server. That's just the kind of control NT administrators love. How users are going to respond, however, may be an entirely different story.
