The next time you're searching the Web, try something new. Instead of jumping from one search engine to the next, use a single superset engine that queries most traditional engines. This superset product, Iconovex Corp.'s EchoSearch, acts as a site search broker. It takes a search phrase (along with "includes" and "excludes" from your query), then explores multiple sites (including AltaVista, Excite, HotBot, Infoseek, Lycos, Open Text Index and WebCrawler) concurrently. The query results, if any, are refined and downloaded onto your local system. EchoSearch then invokes your chosen browser and presents the pages to you as a topically organized page containing URLs for you to drill down on. Query results can be linked from a browser into a document. These embedded links are live, so you can jump immediately to the link from an embedded URL. EchoSearch has an enormous searching scope. In fact, you can fill a hard disk quickly if you don't delete the sessions at the end of a search exam. The latest EchoSearch release, version 1.08, is available now for free on Iconovex's Web site (http://www.iconovex.com). However, if you want it, you'd better act fast-the company is preparing version 2.0, which will arrive soon. It will cost from $29.95 to $49.95 per PC for a six-month or 12-month license.
