WinLab Reviews

Two screen-capture utilities, Print Screen Deluxe and CaptureEze97, aim to enhance the functionality of the rarely used Print Screen key. Print Screen Deluxe When active, Print Screen Deluxe quickly captures and prints the entire screen when you use the Print Screen button; Alt+Print Screen captures just the active window. You can add a date and time stamp to your printed screen or save it as a BMP, JPG, PCX or PNG file. Print Screen Deluxe can also reverse an image or adjust it to fit a window. However, the "Stretch to fit window" command made our test images look lopsided. The program also includes a number of image-editing tools, including the ability to adjust brightness and sharpness (using sliding bars), flip or rotate the image, perform color bleeding and gamma correction or zoom in on a portion of the picture. If you are using a MAPI-compliant e-mail program, you can also send your finished files to just about anyone. CaptureEze97 You'll find a similarly sophisticated combination of screen-capture and image-editing options in CaptureEze97. The Print Screen and Alt+Print Screen buttons function as in Print Screen Deluxe. In addition, you can select part of the screen and preview, edit and print the captured image. You can also save an image to a file, open an existing image, postpone a capture time or repeat the process. Best of all, you can save images in any of 10 formats-six more than Print Screen. Image editing in CaptureEze97 is a little more limited than in Print Screen Deluxe. However, CaptureEze97's more comprehensive file-format support and low learning curve make it a better buy. It earns a spot on our WinList.
