Easy is usually better. Since 1994, CoStar LabelWriter, a nifty little label printer, has come with AddressMate software, a powerful application that's a bit on the excessive side if all you want to print is a single label. Now CoStar's Easy Software Suite makes it a snap to create an individual label. Easy Label is the first of the three products in the suite. It provides 30 built-in label templates including address, audio cassette, diskette, file folder, shipping, video spine and UPS. The program launches into a data-input screen that lets you choose font, justification and alignment. An embedded preview screen lets you see how your label will look before printing. Then, click the print icon and out pops your label from your Label-Writer printer. For those who need a quick and easy way to create name badges and ID cards, Easy Badge provides more than 50 templates. You can use them with any Video for Windows-compliant device to instantly create photo badges. CoStar additionally offers a variety of label and badge materials, including adhesive labels, card stock that fits into plastic holders and permanent ID stock. The third application, Easy Bar Code, stripes in UPC, EAN, Code 39, Code 128, PostNet and Codabar codes. You can use a prebuilt template or design your own. In either case, it's an inexpensive way for small businesses to print bar codes. New but somewhat expensive LabelWriter XL and XL Plus printers bundle the new package along with AddressMate. Existing LabelWriter owners can download the software from CoStar's Web site: http://www.costar.com/warez/#pcwarez.
