Unseen 3D

I was very disappointed that your 3D graphics piece (Cover Story, May) failed to mention two of the largest manufacturers out there, ATI Technologies and Matrox. The ATI 3D RAGE was one of the first end-user graphics chipsets on the market, and the Matrox Mystique is well known for excellent 2D and 3D performance.

Editors note: See our review of the Matrox Mystique in this issue.

The one 3D graphics program missing from your article was QuickDraw 3D from Apple Computer. QuickDraw 3D and the QuickDraw 3D RAVE architecture are an excellent pair and together provide both a rich high-level and powerful low-level 3D graphics architecture. QuickDraw 3D has been available for Pentium-based computers running Windows 95 or NT for quite some time.

You forgot about the number-one 3D card on the market, the Diamond Monster. The Voodoo chipset has broken all the records, and the benchmarks are through the roof. Diamond is one of the best manufacturers of 3D video cards I've seen.
