Visual SQL 4.0

Visual SQL Gives Visual C++ a Boost

Thanks to Visual SQL 4.0, Microsoft Visual C++ can now take on the big boys of client/server development. Visual SQL turns Visual C++ into a Delphi rival by giving developers who want compiled code an alternative to Pascal.

Visual SQL 4.0 adds visual designers, wizards and object-oriented data access to Visual C++. Its tools for creating queries include a Query Builder, SQL Wizard and SQL Editor. Visual SQL 4.0 stores queries, statements, pick lists and ODBC data sources in a central Component Repository. The program's AppBrowser provides a graphical view of all database objects and resources included in an application.

The program includes Sybase SQL Anywhere, a 32-bit relational database.

Keep Your X Apps Spotless

Find and correct errors in applications that use Microsoft's ActiveX technology with BoundsChecker 4.0. BoundsChecker's Smart Debugging feature runs its error detection in the background. The debugging tool integrated into Microsoft's Visual C++ Developer Studio debugger can detect hidden mistakes as you step through code in the VC++ debugger. The program's EventView technology shows a step-by-step, layer-by-layer history of events leading to an error.

BoundsChecker will also evaluate Internet APIs, including the Winsock API, and OLE Interface leaks, as well as invalid parameters and return codes for over 70 OLE interfaces. BoundsChecker also supports Delphi 2.0.

Programming In Brief

Make the most of Windows 95 and NT's Speech API with TruVoice 5.0 SDK. TruVoice can convert any text into spoken English and employs an intelligent preprocessor to read e-mail messages and fax headers. A set of context-sensitive rules improves poorly written text and makes interactive voice response systems easier to implement.

Turn your Delphi 2.0 VCLs into 32-bit OLE controls with OCX Expert. You give Expert the name of your project and it examines the VCL for components, which you select to expose in your OCX. You assign an OLE name and description, version number and trademark information, and Expert converts and compiles the VCL into an OLE control. Delphi generates portable OCXes that can be used in any supporting OLE container, such as Borland C++, Borland Delphi 2.0 and Visual Basic 4.0.
